    Description

Tied for Finest Known 1891 $50 Silver Certificate

Fr. 334 $50 1891 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.
This note and one other in Superb Gem are the only examples to have been graded Gem. Of the five other Friedberg numbers that make up the entirety of the 1891 $50 Silver Certificate type, there are no comparable survivors. Even regular Gems are limited in number with just two offerings in the last decade. Both Superb Gems have seen auction and both have flirted with the $70,000 mark in previous appearances. With around 45 surviving examples, the Fr. 334 is a nice rarity in its own right, compounded here by the impeccable grade. An acquisition that lifts the overall quality and appeal of even the most advanced collections.
