    Description

    Attractive 1896 $5 Silver Certificate

Fr. 269 $5 1896 Silver Certificate PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ.
Arguably the most popular and attractive of all of the 19th century type notes, these $5 Educationals are the height of the engraver's art at a time when engraving was an honored and respected profession. This note features the perfect amount of ink, boldly dark against a background of bright white paper. That, combined with boardwalk margins, has given this note explosive eye appeal. The assigned 45 EPQ grade strikes us as precisely accurate, as the note has three very light vertical folds and all its bold paper originality. Most 45 EPQ $5 Educationals sell at or just above $5,000, but this piece with its incredible eye appeal should garner a 20% or higher premium.
