    Fully Gem Technicolor $20

    Fr. 1180 $20 1905 Gold Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
    This Technicolor Twenty has glowing colors, deep, original embossing, and great eye appeal. It comes from a small hoard of high-grade Twenty Dollar 1905's that William Philpot, the long-time Secretary of the Texas Bankers Association and a pioneer currency collector and dealer, purchased from a friend who had worked at the Treasury Department. There were originally 25 notes in the group that were not consecutive, but all came from the pack that began A4043___, which is the source of most all of the uncirculated Fr. 1180's extant today. The last third party graded Fr. 1180 in this grade (with the exception of a single digit serial number specimen which sold for considerably more) fetched just a hair under $50,000 when offered in January of 2012. In an even stronger market today, we would not be at all surprised to see this ex-Siesta collection specimen exceed that number before the hammer falls tonight.
