    Description

    Vivid Fr. 115 "Bison" Note

Fr. 115 $10 1901 Legal Tender PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
The "Bison" note is one of the most esteemed large size currency types and was issued across nine Friedberg numbers (Fr. 114-122). Once subject to debate, the central bison vignette is facing left (or to the west since the note has a western expansion design concept) engraved by Marcus Baldwin; Lewis and Clark portraits are at each end, respectively, as engraved by G.F.C. Smillie; and the allegorical Columbia is at the center on the back. This is an earlier Friedberg number. It is a clean example with balanced margins and vivid color. Ex: our Currency Auctions of America, January 1995 sale, lot 421.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.

    Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
