    Gem Philadelphia 1918 Thousand

Fr. 1133 $1000 1918 Federal Reserve Note Gem New. We sold this gorgeous Philadelphia District Thousand once before in September of 1999, where it was described, "This beautiful note is one of a run of three that are alternately called AU or Gem New whenever they appear. We have gone over this note extremely carefully, and we can find no reason on earth to call it anything other than Gem New. The original embossing of the design in unquestionable, and the overall look and feel is just as the type should be. The colors are beautifully bright, and the centering of both sides approaches perfection. It appears that finally the new cadre of buyers have learned that careful examination and making one's own decisions in far wiser than relying on previous people's opinions, which 1) may well have been incorrect; or 2) may have been the result of an agenda rather than knowledge. We suggest careful examination of this note - or for that matter, any expensive note that one is considering purchasing - and we are confident that no knowledgeable bidder will disagree with our grade assessment." In that sale, the note was estimated at $25,000-up, and it realized $33,000. On today's market, it should do somewhat better.
