    Mid-Grade 1918 $1000 FRBN

Fr. 1133-L $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Very Fine 25.
According to Track and Price only ten examples, not including this note, have crossed the auction block, with the highest grade being 45. There are two at that level, one of which we sold in May of 2007 for $138,000. This note appears to be accurately graded. It is also very well centered, with strong ink colors and excellent contrast between the inks and bright paper. The assigned 25 grade is right about mid-range for the number, and the most recent VF examples have been averaging around $45,000. This one is certainly nicer than most at its grade level, and we would anticipate a realization right around the $50,000 mark. This $1,000 denomination is the highest denomination large size note available to collectors. $5,000's and $10,000's were printed and released for several different series, but no examples save for specimens have ever turned up.
