Fr. 1078b $100 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ.
A tremendous Chicago $100 FRN Red Seal that is not only the highest graded Fr. 1078b by both PMG and PCGS, but is also at the very top of all $100 FRN Red Seals combined. It shares that title with a Boston Fr. 1072a graded PCGS 67PPQ. We originally auctioned the note in this lot in January 2001. We were able to examine it up close in those days before encapsulation and described it as, "hugely margined, beautifully bright, 100% original and without flaw. The centering is ideal on both sides, and it would be hard to imagine a finer note of the type." It looks exactly the same to us today and its PMG grade of 67 EPQ concurs with our original assessment in 2001. It is definitely a perfect note for the collector who is searching for the very best.
