Possibly Finest Fr. 788 $5 1915 Atlanta FRBN

Fr. 788 $5 1915 Federal Reserve Bank Note PMG About Uncirculated 53.
This is an exceptional note on several fronts. It is a rarely encountered 1915 $5 Atlanta note with spaces left for stamped bank-officer signatures; they are not engraved on the plate as was done in 1918. The Bell and Wellborn black ink-stamped signatures are perfectly sharp on this example. Track & Price enumerates only 18 examples in all grades. This is tied in the census with one PCGS 53PPQ note we sold in January 2010. The Herman Halpern March 1993 sale note, which we sold uncertified in April 2004 for $2,300, might be just a shade finer than this. A lightly handled note with excellent centering on both sides that has been in Mike's collection for decades. The census records it as sold in our CAA January auction in 1998 for $467.50. An interesting and beautiful $5 FRBN that has been unavailable for over two decades.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
