    Description

Fr. 742 $1 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.
The combined PMG and PCGS census data shows that only three Gem or better Fr. 742 Dallas notes have been graded in all the years since the third-party currency grading companies were established. Two of these Gems are ensconced in old-time collections and have never been offered at public auction. The pleasing note in our auction tonight was last offered almost 10 years ago in 2010 where it brought $2,311. Since then, just two Gem Fr. 742 Federal Reserve Banknotes have reached the auction block; the first, graded PCGS 65PPQ, fetched $3,680 back in 2012, and the second, graded PMG 68 EPQ, realized a record shattering $11,162 in our April 2013 Central States auction.

The 1918 Dallas $1 FRBN offered here this evening is not only strikingly original, but also possesses the superb embossing, brilliant inks and impeccable centering that makes for sensational eye appeal. It should easily approach our estimate here tonight given its relative scarcity in ultra-high grade.
