Description

Hessler Ex2 National Currency $5 Experimental Watermarked Paper Trial PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
This Experimental is plated on page 241 of Gene Hessler's U.S. Essay, Proof and Specimen Notes. Hessler states that it first became known in 1874 when the estate of the ABNCo President John E. Gavit was settled. It has both a lightly printed large rectangle and a "5" counter at center on off-white crepe paper. The "5" counter is surrounded by the watermark of, "National Currency / FIVE / United States" in gothic print. A couple of penned squiggly lines are also present on this piece that measures approximately 6.5 by 3 inches. We know of no other examples besides the similar Hessler Ex1 that is also plated in the above reference. The third party back label informs us of small edge tears.
