$2 1880 Face and Back Proofs
Hessler 162 Fr. 56 Face/50-56 Back Proofs $2 1880 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. R A rare and interesting face and back Proof pair. They are of the adopted designs, have engraved signatures, are serial numbered, and not cancelled in any form. This is one of the very few times that we have auctioned a Proof that meets all of the aforementioned desirable criteria. Also, the serial number is A00000 in blue ink, the plate letter is B, and each Proof has been mounted on card stock. They are identified as Hessler 162 on page 39 of U.S. Essay, Proof and Specimen Notes by Gene Hessler. Our scrutiny has determined that both Proofs have certainly earned their Gem grade. We had a $1 Silver Black Eagle Face Essay Proof with the adopted design, engraved signatures, a serial number, and not cancelled in any form bring $15,275 last August. Tonight's Proof has all that plus there is a Back Proof. Both pieces are encapsulated within a single PMG multi-note holder allowing for viewing of both sides at once.View Certification Details from PMG
