Excessively Rare $20 1882 Gold Certificate Face Proof
Fr. 1177 $20 1882 Gold Certificate Face Proof Hessler 842 PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.The first of an incredible pair of face and back Proofs, each of which combines true rarity and spectacular grade. Both pieces trace their pedigree to a 1979 Kagin sale, and each has been off the market since that date. Although we have handled numerous Proofs and Specimens in previous sales, we have never had the opportunity to offer even one Gold Certificate Proof example in any prior sale. The note is fully complete, lacking only the seal, and bears serial number C00000 in blue ink. It is well nigh perfect and mounted on card stock, looking as though it left the press this morning.
