Back Proof Hessler 469BD Fr. 103-13 $10 1880 Legal Tender PCGS Choice New 63.A great Back Design Proof that is specifically listed on page 40 of U.S. Essay, Proof and Specimen Notes by Gene Hessler. Hessler's description includes the penned statement in the bottom margin, "Proof of old flat piece before working over. Started new die Apl. 7/96. (signed) T(homas) F. M(orris)." Morris performed quality engravings at the BEP. His tenure from 1893-98 was cut short due to a mortal illness. This example is mounted on cardstock as described by both Hessler and PCGS. The Hessler number of "Fd 16" on the third party label is a Friedberg design number.
