"Secret Marks" Partial Back Proofs Numbered 21-25 Fr. 42 $2 1869 Legal Tender Not Graded.
The third and final lot for "secret marks" on Fr. 42 Proof sections is in this lot. Mounted to the kraft ledger page are plate numbers 21-25 with five different locations marked in red ink for the proposed location of tiny dot "secret marks" within a section of the back of this Friedberg number. This single page mounted item is not graded and six edge tears have been repaired with archival tape on the back. Also, pieces of kraft paper are missing from the left and right edges. The left edge missing piece goes close up to one green ink Proof section at upper left without harming it. At center, the missing paper also includes the removal of a slender portion of a black ink Proof section. Nonetheless, this is an historical item from the era when much of our nation's paper money was printed by private bank note companies. The back of the kraft paper has "ghost" reversed images of nine sections of Proof Pick A244 Brazil 1 Mil Reis notes. Pick A244 was printed by the ABNCo. This Pick number does not carry a printed date, but it was issued in 1870. This tells us that United States and world notes that were in the ABNCo "secret marks" project were kept in the same ledger.
