Exquisite ex-Vattemare $500 1847 Interest Bearing Note

$500 Treasury Note 1847 Hessler X114C PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 Net.
The plate note in the Hessler reference, which features illustrations of both the front and back of this note on page 147. It is mounted in a card frame, and, like many of these early rarities, can be traced back to the holdings of Alexander Vattemare. Unlike the bonds that are also featured in this sale, one year notes from the issue of January 28, 1847 were meant to circulate, and bore the notation that they were "redeemable in payment of all public dues," which included customs payments, the government's chief revenue raiser. The note bears cut-outs at the left signature block, and a punch cancel at the right signature block. The reverse is a brilliant orange with the only flaw mentioned by PMG the punch cancels. Any estimate here is simply a guess, as we have never had any examples from this issue to offer in any prior sale, but our best surmise is...
