$20 Spanish-American War 3% Coupon Bond of 1898 Hessler
X188G.This is the smallest denomination for this patriotic coupon bond issue. It is given Hessler's highest rarity rating of R8, a mere one to three known. This attractive example has its full complement of eighty 15ยข coupons. The bond has the some minor folds, resulting in a PCGS Extremely Fine 40 grade. A small edge split is noted by the grading service, something that is unavoidable on a bond of this size and could have just as easily been ignored. It has been able to retain both paper originality and nice color. Tonight's lovely example last realized more than $10,000 in an auction offering a few years ago. A great numismatic collectible from the war that propelled the United States into a global power.
