    Description

Bergen & Tripp 114 Nassau Street New York, NY 50 Cents. PE141. Extremely Fine.
Bergen & Tripp were stationers and printers in Lower Manhattan where the vast majority of these envelopes come from. The exact block that they were located on was the central scene for New York City's coin and stamp business from the 1930's into the early 1960's. Fred Reed considers this merchant to be an R-8 with 5 to 10 pieces known. When his book was published, he was aware of this unique 50 cent denomination but had never seen it as his book indicates "Design Unknown." All other Bergen & Tripp envelopes are 25 cents. The design as it turns out is identical to the 25 cents PE135 save for the denomination. The envelope is essentially About New but is missing its flap.
