Handsome Twenty Dollar Compound Interest Treasury Note

Fr. 191a $20 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PMG Very Fine 25 Net.
The Net grade has been assigned for "Restoration" which appears to be the closing of an edge split. As usual, the bronze overprint has turned green, but in this instance, it does not have the look of corroded metal that is often the result of the oxidation. Even under close inspection, it gives the appearance of having been printed in green ink. A far more desirable effect than what generally happens to these notes. The inks and paper are quite bright, and the margins are extraordinary for this type. Track & Price indicates there are 62 examples known of this note with none of them listed as grading higher than 40. PMG has graded 23 of these with the highest of them a VF30. Always popular and one of the more available "Middle of the Book" interest-bearing Civil War era notes.
