    Description

Highly Attractive, Mid-Grade Compound Interest Treasury Note

Fr. 190b $10 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PMG Very Fine 25.
PMG has commented minor repairs, none of which are readily apparent even on close inspection. Compound Interest notes were issued to help finance the Civil War and were redeemed for their face value, plus accrued interest after being held for three years. To aid in their identification each received a bronze surcharge stating that it was a COMPOUND INTEREST / TREASURY NOTE / 10. On most examples, the bronzing has turned green and on many it has damaged the paper as it corrodes. This note is totally free of those problems. A number of VF 25s have sold in recent years, primarily between $8,000 and $12,000. This note, with its superior eye appeal and only very minor repairs, should fall close to or above the high end of that range.
