    Description

Fr. 190b $10 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PMG Very Fine 20.
Compound Interest notes were issued to help finance the Civil War and were redeemed for their face value, plus accrued interest after being held for three years. To aid in their identification each received a bronze surcharge stating that it was a COMPOUND INTEREST / TREASURY NOTE / 10. PMG has commented, "Minor Repairs," which appears to us to be a request rather than a statement as we can see no repairs whatsoever, though the note has several wholly original flaws that could use some minor repairs. As is almost always the case, the bronze overprint has oxidized to partially green and there is a small hole near the eagle. For one of these, it is certainly an above average example for appearance as most have far more serious issues.
