1900 $10000 Gold Certificate, Fr-1225, CU. Redeemed and cancelled, as are all known notes of this issue. The surviving examples of this series all came from an incident in 1935, when there was a small fire at a Post Office building in Washington, D.C. Firefighters threw several stacks of these cancelled notes onto the sidewalks, where they were picked up by local passersby. Nearly all show signs of water stains and other handling marks. This note is a pleasant exception, and displays bright colors, bold embossing, and great eye appeal. The centering is fantastic. There is slight water staining at the bottom of the note, but it is not distracting. Light handling is evident upon close inspection, and there is one bent corner. Worthy of a strong bid.
