Attractive Fr. 197a $20 Interest Bearing Note

Fr. 197a $20 1863 Interest Bearing Note PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25.
A really nice looking example of a very rare $20 Civil War era Interest Bearing note. The Track & Price census indicates only 26 examples known to the collecting community. This one has seen some circulation, but has wonderfully bright colors, particularly the red and green overprints which are as flashy as they would be on an Uncirculated example. PCGS Banknote mentions splits, which likely are at the top of the vertical centerfold. However, no other problems can be spotted even when the note is carefully candled. Most all of the Interest Bearing Notes have had some variety of cosmetic surgery. The last recorded sale for this Friedberg number listed in Track & Price was of a PMG VF 25 with minor repairs which brought $22,800 in our last Long Beach auction.
