Near-Gem 1905 $20 Technicolor Gold Certificate
Fr. 1180 $20 1905 Gold Certificate PCGS Very Choice New
A Technicolor note from the small run of high-grade $20 1905s that William Philpott purchased from a friend who had previously worked at the Treasury Department. The notes were not consecutive pieces, but all were from a pack that began with serial number A4043xx. This example sports serial number A404314. The colors on this Technicolor Twenty are absolute perfection and it is likely that the slight tightness of the bottom margin at lower right is all that held it from the full Gem grade. It is fully deserving of its Premium Paper Quality designation as the deep embossing is clearly 100% original. A magnificent example of this perennially popular type that comes right to the cusp of the full Gem grade.
