    Description

Very Choice New Fr. 1348 ex-Milt Friedberg

Fr. 1348 50c Third Issue Justice Very Choice New. This note from the Hoffman Collection was previously Lot 645 from our sale of the Milt Friedberg collection, January 10, 1997. It was described there: "This is a near-Gem example of this classic '1' and 'a' Red Back Justice. The margins range from large to small, but there is at least some margin clear of the frame line all the way around the note. This rarity is fully fresh and beautifully original, with lots of deep embossing plainly evident. Only about 20 examples of this number are known, and this beauty ranks well in the top half. This is the plate note from the Encyclopedia, with the face photographed on page 105." In that sale six years ago, the note realized $1980 on an estimate of $1750-up.
