    Description

Fr. 1339SP 50c Third Issue Spinner Wide Margin Back About New, Repaired. This note, which we first offered as part of the Hoffman Collection, faces up very nicely. The note has been repaired at the edges by the replacement of a few missing pieces and a few small holes have been fixed, but the overall appearance is that of a complete note with some handling. When the Encyclopedia was printed, only six examples were known to exist of this Type II Spinner back. In the intervening years, that count has slightly more than doubled, but the total known population is still just a bit more than a dozen. Type II Spinner Backs were not included in the Specimen Sets sold at the Treasury and apparently were not prepared for the purpose of distribution, as all known examples lack the bronze "50" surcharge that appears on the regular-issue notes.
