Fr. 1294 25¢ Third Issue PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
A spectacular Green Back Fessenden with huge margins, deep embossing, and 100% full color of the paper, ink, and bronze. If the left margin were as ample as the other three this would likely have graded 68PPQ. A common enough note up through and including the Gem 65PQ grade level. Both services population reports show a precipitous drop in the quantity that have graded 66PPQ or better. We first sold this same note as Lot 246 of CAA's May 1996 sale, and then again in our 2007 FUN sale. It fell just short of the $500 mark that day and no doubt has appreciated handsomely in the intervening years since that time.
