Fr. 1244 10¢ Second Issue PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ.
This note is alone at the top of the PMG census out of the over 150 examples that they have graded. It is another example of a Friedberg number that is quite common in all grades up through Choice New, but a real rarity at the Superb Gem level. Even these statistics, as impressive as they are, have a caveat that no one ever seems to mention: after seven years of grading, collectors and dealers have pretty much stopped sending in circulated Fractionals, and only submit notes that they feel will grade at the top end of the census. But, if all the 1244's in collections and inventories were submitted, it is still likely that the PMG census would show this as being the highest-graded piece out of the thousand-plus that they have examined.
