Milton 4S15R.1a 15¢ Fourth Issue PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
Identical to the pieces in the block of nine that was Lot 1101 of our 1/97 MRF auction, except for two long, curved slits that appear to have been cut by a laser. Clearly, this was purposely done at the Treasury for some reason that is lost to history. PMG has commented, "As made design cut-outs." We've not been able to trace the history of this piece, and it's very safe to presume it is unique. In any event, this wonderfully margined, sharply printed piece has all the detail of a Proof.
