    Description

Milton 2E5R.1h 5¢ Second Issue Experimental Back Courtesy Autograph PCGS Banknote Uncirculated 62, 2 POCs.
We originally offered this note as lot 15830 in the auction of the Tom O'Mara Collection in May, 2005. Very few courtesy autographs are known on Experimentals and John Burke's signature on this example is darker and clearer than what we are used to seeing. Also, the 5¢ denomination is much scarcer for Experimentals. Prior to receiving the courtesy autograph, this piece was item #46 in Ed Frossard's October, 1893 price list of the Spencer Clark Collection, who was the first Superintendent of the National Currency Bureau, now the BEP. It is tied to the Clark Collection by the penned "46" on its blank back. This "46" is cited as minor writing in ink on the back label. Two half moon cancellations are present.
