Description

Milton 1DP10F.1 and 1DP10R.1 10¢ First Issue Trial-Color Die Proof. Both the face and back are uniface proof printings on soft white paper. This unique pair traces its origins to a 1904 Chapman Sale, no other examples having been seen before or since. Even though the back is in its normal black color, it's immediately evident that you are not looking at just another Specimen note. Both impressions are clearly from brand-new plates, as the engraving is incredibly sharp and the embossing strikingly obvious. The face is also printed in black rather than the usual green. Both face and back grade Choice New and would be Gems if it were not for minor mounting traces on their blank sides.
