    Description

Fractional Currency Shield, With Gray Background.
An average gray Shield that is fully intact, with all of the notes fully intact and no scuffs on the gray portion. The notes are all bright, and the 25¢ Second Issue back, which normally comes faded-to-light-blue is actually a light gray. The hand-signed Justice and Spinner 50¢ notes and the Grant-Sherman 15¢ notes are of the Jeffries-Spinner signature combination, and the hand signed Washington 10¢ is of the Colby-Spinner combination. There is the normal water staining at the bottom that was a result of damage that occurred while they were in storage at the BEP before being shipped off to banks, as well as some dark spots at the top. This frame is made of dark wood and has a gold leaf inner border, but all shields were shipped flat, so it is not a true BEP issue. This shield has a note on the back indicating that it was a family heirloom of the Hyland family in San Jose, CA., the founding family of the San Jose National Bank, Bank Charter #13338.
