Fractional Currency Shield, With Gray Background Extremely Fine.
A better than average looking gray Shield with all of the notes fully intact and no scuffs on the gray portion. The notes are all bright, and the 25¢ Second Issue back is light blue as these are normally seen. The bronzing on most notes is bright and reflective and all four Second Issue faces have an almost bulls-eye oval. Some of the notes have areas where the glue is coming through, but no major erosion has occurred. The hand-signed Justice and Spinner 50¢ faces and the Grant-Sherman 15¢ face are of the Jeffries-Spinner signature combination, and the hand signed Washington 10¢ is of the Colby-Spinner combination. There is the normal water staining at the bottom that was a result of damage that occurred while they were in storage at the BEP before being shipped off to banks. The matte board has been remounted to another base and this is evident around the edges, but is not overly distracting. The frame is made of dark wood and has a gold leaf inner border, but all shields were shipped flat, so it is not a true BEP issue.
