One of the Finest Pink Fractional Currency Shields in Existence

Fr. 1383 Fractional Currency Shield, With Pink Background.
This is the second time we have handled this stunningly beautiful Pink Shield. It was lot 12270 from our April 2008 Central States sale. At that time, it realized $18,975. It was sold with the following description, "We have handled nine or ten pink shields and examined several others over the years. This one is one of the very nicest. With the exception of the Second Issue 25¢ note, which is light faded as always, every note is at or very near its full brilliance. The bronze on all the Second and Third Issue notes is beautifully bright. All four hand-signed notes are Colby-Spinner examples as virtually always seen on pink shields. The hand-signed Fr. 1273SP Grant-Sherman is one of the finest we have ever seen, and it would be worth several thousand dollars by itself. The pink background is unusually bold with a highly attractive lavender cast. The shield is problem-free save for a few nit-pickingly minor wrinkles. It is housed in a contemporary wood frame with an old board back that likely dates to the period of the shield's production. The glass is clearly original with the minor bubbles and surface irregularities that date it to the period of the shield's issue." On re-examination, nearly four years later, we are every bit as impressed as we were then. A truly exceptional example.
