    Fr. 1382 Fractional Currency Shield, With Gray Background.
    A better than average quality gray Fractional Currency Shield in a plain dark wood frame with cardboard backing. The shield itself is covered at its outer edge by a custom mat nicely cut to the edges of the engraving. Whether or not the areas under the mat are water stained, we cannot tell, but this shield has picked up some water staining in more recent times. The mat itself is considerably water stained from top to bottom at the left edge, but that staining only intrudes on the shield itself at the bottom left where it affects the bottom four notes in the first column. The shield is unfolded, but does have some scuffs here and there, only one of which affects a note. The back of the Second Issue Fifty Cent has a scuff in its upper left corner. The notes are primarily bright and as issued save for the red backs which are faded very slightly and the back of the Twenty-Five Cent Second Issue which as always has discolored from exposure to light. Three of the four handsigned notes are Jeffries-Spinner varieties and the Ten Cent Third Issue is a Colby-Spinner. Overall better than average and its appearance would be vastly improved with a new mat.
