    Description

Fr. 1296 25¢ Third Issue PCGS Banknote Uncirculated 62.
This is the rare variety with the extremely large "a" 7mm to the lower right of its normal position. This shifted position occurred only on face plate 144, which was one of 90 plates used. This information was originally researched by Martin Gengerke at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing Archives in Washington. He published his findings in Paper Money magazine (Volume 11 Number 2 Whole Number 42 page 80) in 1972. The grade is correctly limited on this note due to an extremely tight right face margin. Most of the known 1296s are high grade.
