Fr. 1229 5¢ First Issue PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
A handsome example, this much scarcer variety featuring a perforated number without monogram sits alone as Top Pop at PCGS, with PMG having graded a single 66 EPQ. Printed on bright yellow paper, as is typical for this variety, this offering displays nice embossing that is clearly visible through the holder. It has been a half-dozen years since we sold a gem Fr. 1229, with that PMG Gem Unc 65 EPQ realizing just under $1,000. This note was originally purchased for over $1,000 as part of the Tom Flynn collection which we auctioned in April 2008. Top caliber Fractionals have recently had an epiphany within the paper money community, as sage collectors have come to realize what we have known for years...nice examples are drastically undervalued.
