    Description

Milton 2E5F.1 5¢ Second Issue Plate Progress Proof Gem New. Printed on light, heavily fibered paper with the Washington portrait printed in place and the "5"s of the denomination added. This is a spectacular note that was missing from the Milton Friedberg holdings. Tom O'Mara acquired it when he purchased the Doug Hales Collection. It appears to have been item #44 from Ed Frossard's 1893 listing of the Clark Collection. If not unique, then certainly one of a very few known. We know of no other, although the piece was not "starred" on the Frossard listing, which would have indicated that Frossard had at least two.
