    Description

    Unique 50¢ Trial-Color Die Proof

Milton 1DP50F.1 50¢ First Issue Trial-Color Die Proof About New. Printed on soft, white India paper in black ink, this off-color trial printing is clearly from a brand new plate, as every line of the engraving is razor sharp. There are a few light handling marks and a very tiny paper pull at the lower right, at the "C" in "OFFICE," but the overall appearance far outweighs these minor faults. This magnificent rarity is unique. Not even a rumor of another exists. Although this is a Narrow Margin Proof, the margins are free of the frame line all around the note. This Proof realized $1650 in our January 1997 auction of the Milton Friedberg Collection. Prior to that, it was lot 568 from the Chapman's October 20, 1904 auction.
