    Description

F.E. Spinner Check. Francis Spinner is credited with the introduction of Postage Currency while he served as Treasurer of the United States during the Civil War. He used a special three nibbed pen to produce his distinctive signature. This check is drawn on the First National Bank of Florida and is dated October 7, 1887. It is made out to "Myself" and it is also endorsed on the back by Spinner. Spinner's signature took on a shaky appearance near the end of his life, but the distinctive pen strokes remain. Extremely Fine, internal tear.
