Milton 3E10F.2a 10¢ Third Issue Experimental Gem New. Although not the same piece, this note is virtually identical to lot 1092 of our Milt Friedberg January 1997 auction. The only appreciable difference is that this piece has the plate position indicator number 1, and the Friedberg piece did not. The placement of the blue "SPECIMEN" stamp is identical as are the shapes and placement of the cancellation holes. There are the normal two half-moon cancels at the ends and three additional round cancels, one through each signature and one in the vignette. The Friedberg example, which was not as nice as this note, realized over $1,300 eight years ago. This piece, in superior condition, and with the "1" should more than double that figure. Printed on heavier fiber paper than any that was adopted for actual production.
