Milton 2E5F.2? Second Issue Plate Progress Proof Choice About New. This piece is extremely similar to several of the items in the 2E5F.2 group, but it does not precisely match any of them, as the paper lacks fibers and is thick, yellowish and hard. It's an unpunched, uncancelled, undenominated piece with the portrait of Washington printed rather than pasted in place. But for the denomination, the key, the enabling act date and the frame around the portrait, this note is complete. These non-denominated Second Issue Experimentals form an extremely interesting series as they travel from the pasted-on portrait of the previous two lots, to the engraved portrait lacking its proper frame line such as this note, then on to the denominated piece as in the next lot, and finally the completed note two lots down. This great piece is flawless but for a corner fold, some very light soil and a minor wrinkle.
