Ten Cent Second Issue Die Proof

Milton 2E10F.3 10¢ Second Issue Die Proof Gem New. This incredible note, which fully qualifies as Gem, is printed on light card mounted to a heavier, softer card prior to printing. The impression is remarkably sharp, and it comes from an individual die as opposed to a prepared plate. The edges of the metal have deeply impressed themselves into the card all the way around. This piece is stamped and punched in the same style as the majority of Experimentals, but it is clearly an earlier product, done at the beginning of plate preparation. This piece is from our January '97 sale of the Milt Friedberg Collection, where it appeared as lot 931 and realized $2310. Milt considered this piece, "A die proof made prior to the hardening of the die directly on Bristol board." lot 53 Fraser Collection February 1, 1982; lot 931 CAA MRF January 97.
