    Scarce St. Louis District $5,000

Fr. 2221-H $5,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Very Fine 25.
A moderately circulated $5,000 Federal Reserve Note, this is one of only seven pieces listed in the census for the St. Louis district. It also bears the highest reported serial number for the district, H00000449A. Just 2,400 notes were printed and issued by the St. Louis District. One can conjecture by the lack of numbers known above 500, that the back half of the print run could have been used solely for bank to bank trading, thus facing redemption rates near 100%. A tear is noted in the bottom margin and the overprint remains bold on this rare denomination.
