Excessively Rare Minneapolis $500 1934 Star- The Nicer of Two Known

Fr. 2201-I* $500 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Extremely Fine 40.
When we sold this high denomination replacement note in our September 2005 auction, we said it was one of two stars listed in the census from this district in the 1934 series and that it was also the finer of the pair with excellent color and just light, even wear. Amazingly, the other known star was also offered in the auction. Since that time, neither piece has made a public appearance again until this evening, providing a great opportunity for today's generation of collectors. If rarity is any criterion, this $500 star will see considerable bidding activity before the hammer falls tonight.
