Burke-Houston New York $1000 Fed - One of Nine Known

Fr. 1133a-B $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Very Fine 20.
A nice mid-grade example of this extremely rare Friedberg number, this note is one of just nine pieces known, none of which have been publicly offered in almost ten years. New York was the sole district to issue large thousands bearing the Burke-Houston signature combination, which helps explain the paucity of appearances in recent years. This is an evenly circulated example of this rare number with nice color, housed in a comment-free holder. Fr. 1133a has always been a severely undervalued number, as the nine pieces known contrast quite favorably with the well over 150 examples known from all districts combined of Fr. 1133, which bears the far more common Burke-Glass signature. After ten years without auction appearances for this number, this $1,000 should generate serious bidding interest.
