    Description

Scarce Fr. 808 $5 San Francisco FRBN

Fr. 808 $5 1915 Federal Reserve Bank Note PMG Very Fine 30.
San Francisco $5 FRBNs are unusual compared to nearly all others in the series. Their face plate dates are May 20, 1914, instead of May 18, 1914; the exception is Fr. 809a, which uses the May 18 face plate. There are fewer than 40 examples known of this 1915 $5 San Francisco FRBN with the engraved Teehee-Burke signatures combined with the printed ones of Clerk and Lynch. Auction records are generally well spaced for this difficult Friedberg number. Of three Fr. 808 notes Mike owned, this is the nicest. The wear is modest and the stamped signatures very fluidly accomplished. Showing superior appearance for the technical grade. A PMG Very Fine 20 was eagerly pursued in the first Coltrane sale for $3,840. That was a very strong price, but these are generally difficult to find.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
