    Description

PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ $5 Fr. 782 New York FRBN

Fr. 782 $5 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
Although the $5 Federal Reserve Bank Notes were initially issued in 1915 for some branches, most are 1918 series notes. Eleven of the 12 Federal Reserve Bank locations issued $5 FRBNs (Richmond did not). The face features Charles Burt's iconic Lincoln portrait at the left along with a blue treasury seal and serial numbers. The ornate green back uses two retouched historical vignettes from earlier Federal types. At the left is Columbus' Discovery of Land, and at the right is the Landing of the Pilgrims. The bottom obligation differs significantly from the Federal Reserve Notes which share this general back design. While an available $5 New York FRBN in lesser grades, it is much scarcer in this condition. Teehee-Burke and Hendricks-Strong signatures are paired here. The back centering is slightly skewed, but the face is framed very well. Mike acquired this as a "Near Gem" at the 1992 FUN show, and that truth still holds. An ideal type set candidate or member of a quality $5 district set.
