Fr. 1850-C* $5 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
This lovely star example from the Cookson collection is listed as About Uncirculated in the Oakes census, but a close inspection shows just a bit of light handling on a bright and fresh example with vivid colors and excellent paper quality. The Philadelphia $5 star that sold in Memphis was, compared to a slabbed Gem 66 counterpart in its description and then inexplicably graded as "Choice Uncirculated-Gem," realized $8050 against a pre-sale estimate of $3500-5000. This example, while clearly not the equal of that note, will likely realize about half that amount.
