    Description

Franklin, TX - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 599 The First NB Ch. # 7838
Bold additional rubber stamped purple ink bank officer signatures of Cashier D.J. Mauk and President R.M. Duffey were applied to this $5. A rubber stamp for each signature was used. The first set of signatures was placed high into the printed post office location and the engraved plate date. For the second attempt, the stamp for Mr. Mauck's signature hit its mark on the signature line, but Mr. Duffey's rubber stamping was once again awry as it fell below his signature line. Perhaps the same unsteady hands that rubber stamped this note, also cut the sheet, as this example has an irregular cut along the top and bottom edges that only adds to this interesting error. PCGS Very Fine 25.
