    Scarce $100 Retained Obstruction Error

Fr. 2171-B $100 1985 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Choice New 63PPQ.
Here is cute error that doesn't turn up with regularity especially on the $100 denomination as most printed scrap pieces usually fell off from the constant handling of the printed sheets. Well margined and with plenty of original embossing in place, we are very fortunate an astute bank teller put this away long ago and kept the paper fragment. This error carries a rarity rating of nine. Neither Dr. Frederick J. Bart's Paper Money Error book or Stephen M. Sullivan's US Error Note Encyclopedia make mention nor have a picture of a retained obstruction on a C-note. Expect a battle this evening to take this prize home.
